19 of Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hardcourt

A comeback Medvedev secured his first championship for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a difficult season, winning just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in particular - resulted in him falling of the top ten and finally separating with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set victory over opponent Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first title since the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt from spring of the previous year.

Victory also means he has achieved 21 championships at 21 different competitions.

"For the first time I have attended a event with my both daughters together, so to win a championship is particularly special," stated tennis professional Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six finals, featuring in Halle previously this season.

His retrieving play style and frequent emotional displays on court had caused observers to doubt if his ability to perform at the top level was over.

But the player has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and compete positively, supported by an better serving game.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the first set against the challenging Moutet, securing four of the last five points to go ahead.

The pair swapped breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his initial professional title, took control to push for a final set.

The opponent defended 4 early-game opportunities in a competitive third set before Medvedev broke to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched victory with a rally at the net area, with his opponent failing to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
